Healthcare Facilities

This section provides information on the Montreal's health and social services
system, with links to hospitals, clinics, and other care facilities. The links
below lead to sites with extensive healthcare facility listings, most of which
are searchable by neighborhood.

Health and Social Service Centers (CSSSs in French)
combine  the forces of the CLSCs, residential and long-term care centres
(CHSLDs) and community hospitals in a given territory. CSSSs services
include prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, support
and residential care. To search for a CSSS in your neighbourhood open the
above link. You can write your postal code in the  space provided or scroll
down the listings to find your service center.

OTHER INSTITUTIONS

Hospital centre (CH)
Hospital centres provide their services in a general and specialized
hospital centre (CHSGS) or a psychiatric hospital (CHSP). There are 20
hospital centres in Montreal, including four private hospitals and four
psychiatric hospitals.

Psychiatric Care Hospitals

Residential and long-term care centre (CHSLD)
The mission of a residential and long-term care centre (CHSLD) is to offer
services, on a temporary or permanent basis, to adults, particularly elderly
persons, who, by reason of loss of functional or psychosocial autonomy,
can no longer live in their natural environment .  There are 44 CHSLDs in
Montreal, 33 of which are private. They provide:

lodging, assistance, support or supervision services;
psychosocial services;
nursing care;
pharmaceutical, medical and rehabilitation services.

Convalescent and Rehabilitation Centers (CSSS)
There are 15 rehabilitation centres in Montreal, six of which
are private. Rehabilitation centres serve persons with a mental impairment,
persons with a motor, visual or hearing impairment, persons suffering from
alcoholism or other problems of addiction, and young persons and mothers
with adjustment problems.

Local community health centres (CLSC)

CLSCs (Centres Locales de Services Communautaire) are government-run community health clinics.  The local CLSC is an excellent place to begin when looking for health and social services in Quebec.  CLSC staff will evaluate your individual or family needs and should be able to provide the services you require.  They may also refer you to the center, agency, or community group most able to help you.  Services are free of charge and are available to persons of all ages upon presentation of a Quebec Medicare Card.

You can also call your local CLSC Health Line (Info Sante), day or night if you need advice or reassurance about a medical condition, a health emergency, even for a social or family problem.
