Guide to Government of Canada Services for Seniors Housing
The Government of Canada has a number of programs to help you maintain your home in a safe, comfortable and energy-efficient manner.

The Home Adaptations for Seniors' Independence Program helps homeowners and landlords pay for home adaptations that will allow low-income seniors to stay longer in their own homes.

The Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program financially helps eligible homeowners and landlords make their dwelling accessible to low-income people with disabilities. It also provides assistance to create secondary and garden suites for low-income seniors and adults with disabilities.

The Emergency Repair Program helps low-income homeowners or occupants in rural and remote areas pay for emergency repairs to keep their homes safe.

Housing becomes a delicate issue as the needs of seniors change.  Negotiating this balance can be strenuous and consuming.  Is it safe for your loved one to be living alone?  What other options are available? Whether moving into more appropriate independent housing or searching for a long-term care facility, choices are difficult to make, especially from a distance.
